Dr. Joyce Black is a Professor with the UNMC College of Nursing. She has taught undergraduate students basic concepts, medical surgical nursing and ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing. Dr. Black has received awards from UNMC and the College for her teaching. Her research areas of interest are in wound healing, specifically in pressure ulcers. She is often credited as having rediscovered deep tissue pressure injuries. Dr. Black is certified in wound care nursing and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurses for her work in Deep Tissue Pressure Injuries. Dr. Black is a past President of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and was co-chairman of the NPUAP's task force to redefine pressure ulcer staging.
